SPED 547 - Characteristics of Individuals With, Mild Disabilities Credits: 3 Provides information on academic, cognitive, social, behavioral, and emotional characteristics of individuals with mild disabilities (emotional/behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, and mental retardation). Topics include federal and state laws governing special education since 1970; processes involved in identifying students as having one of the disabilities considered “mild”; specific characteristics of students who have mild disabilities in cognitive, academic, behavioral or social/emotional areas; characteristics of various education service delivery systems; and interventions for students with mild disabilities in grades 1-12. Field work required.
