CHEM 391 - Medicinal Chemistry Credits: 1 Maximum Credits: 2 A study of various concepts related to the chemistry of medicines and drug design. Topics include common biological targets linked to diseases, techniques used in drug discovery, optimizing a drug’s interaction with a biological target, factors negatively affecting a drug reaching its target, and FDA trials. Particular emphasis is given to anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-cancer drugs. A survey of emerging topics from the current medicinal chemistry literature is also covered.
Prerequisite(s): CHEM 222 and BIO 171 .
