GEO 232 - Introduction to Python for Earth Sciences Credits: 2 An introduction to computing in an earth science context. This course introduces students to the Python programming language in a Jupyter Notebook environment and is used to analyze and visualize common earth science data in a variety of contexts. Students will be introduced to elementary Python functionality including if statements, looping, basic data objects, and common built-in and third-party modules used in the earth sciences. Additionally, particular focus will be on methods to read and manipulate earth science data including gridded (raster) data and tabular data.
