ENGL 211CD - The Graphic Novel Credits: 3 This course explores a variety of approaches to the genre of graphic novels, from superhero narratives to graphic memoir, from comic histories to contemporary experimental texts. We will examine the history and forms of visual storytelling and develop an understanding of the ‘grammar’ involved in reading a panel, page, and entire comics sequence. Alongside reading groundbreaking graphic narratives, we will read secondary sources that explore aesthetic and theoretical issues relevant to debates within the field.
General Education: May be used to fulfill the Cultural Diversity component of the General Education Requirements.
