MUS 163 - Music Theory I Credits: 3 A study of basic concepts in diatonic tonal harmony and melody through analysis, part writing, and composition. Topics include fundamentals of tonal music, an introduction to species counterpoint, elementary voice leading and harmonic analysis, diatonic harmonic function, and the phrase.
Prerequisite(s): concurrent enrollment in MUS 102 or placement into MUS 163 as determined by the Music Theory placement component of the Music Diagnostic Exam.
